Feel like yourself again!

A Systematic Approach to the Care of Your Spine

Studies indicate that 80% of all men and women will develop low back pain at some point in their lives. Not surprisingly, this year about half of the American workforce will suffer from limited activity as a result.  Furthermore, almost everyone has experienced neck pain at one point in their life.

Pain in your spine can be easily recognized as one of the most frequent and widespread human health conditions today. Our comprehensive spine care approach effectively maximizes your recovery and reduces the likelihood of future complications. Whether you have had a surgical fixation of your spine, experiencing chronic low back pain, neck pain, or acute low back issues, any spine can benefit from our comprehensive spine stabilization program

Our Comprehensive Care

There are four main phases to the rehabilitation process each with specific challenges and goals. These phases are referred to as:

Protection Phase: In this phase, we are primarily concerned with protecting the injured area to prevent any exacerbation of the injury. During the protection phase, we aim to reduce pain, inflammation, and muscle spasms or guarding. Our team uses a variety of modalities and manual therapy to control pain and promote healing. The protection phase is focused primarily on muscle activation, exercise, education, and rest.

Motion Phase: During this phase of rehabilitation, you will begin to experience a reduction in pain and inflammation while simultaneously improving circulation and mobility. The decrease in pain is accomplished by walking, stretching, and performing painless low-level strengthening exercises. The exercises will provide the building blocks for recovery, remove inflammation, flush waste products that build up in sensitive tissue, and prevent muscle atrophy. This progression allows us to challenge the stability of your spine by introducing specific therapeutic exercises and movement patterns.

Strength Phase: This phase involves correcting the postural weakness and muscle imbalances that may have caused the problem to begin with. Progressive core strengthening exercises, total body strengthening, stretching, and movement education will help reduce the stress on your spine. During the strength phase, we focus on building muscle tolerance to promote healing and reduce the chance of recurrence.

Functional Return Phase: The final stage of rehabilitation addresses strength and neuromuscular control. A variety of functional drills are designed to help you move with better coordination. If appropriate, sport-specific drills are incorporated in this phase. At the end of this phase, you should be returning to most of your recreational activities. Additionally, you will see improved strength and full range of motion in your spine allowing you to return to your previous level of function.

Conclusion: Any spine can benefit from a dynamic spine stabilization program. To maximize these benefits, our team of professionals will make sure you leave knowing and understanding your plan to achieve successful rehabilitation.
